Editorial policy
This page explains how the guides on Accident Law Guide are researched, checked, dated and corrected.
Sources
The order of preference is fixed:
- The text of the law: state statutes, court rules, federal code. Official legislature sites first.
- Official agencies: state DMVs, insurance departments, state bars, federal agencies.
- Court decisions, when a rule comes from case law rather than a statute, as it does for contributory negligence in several states.
- Free legal libraries such as Cornell’s Legal Information Institute and Justia, when the official site can’t be read.
Law firm marketing pages are used only to see what readers are already being told. They are never the source of a number on this site.
Checking
Every page is checked twice before it goes live. The second check is independent and has one instruction: find errors. It goes claim by claim and link by link, and it marks each one as confirmed, false or not confirmed. A claim that can’t be confirmed in the source is removed or reworded, not published on trust.
Use of AI
I use AI tools, under my direction, to draft text and to help with the first and second checks: opening statutes, comparing them with the draft and listing discrepancies. The illustrations are generated with an image model and are illustrations, not photos of real events. The decisions, the sources and the final wording are mine, and every legal statement on the site is tied to a source you can open.
Dates and corrections
Each guide shows the date it was last checked against its sources. When a law changes or a reader reports an error, the page is corrected and the change is listed below with its date.

Independence
No law firm pays to appear on this site, and no guide ranks or recommends specific lawyers. If the site ever carries advertising, ads will be labeled and kept separate from the guides, and they won’t change what a guide says.
